Polish your sterling silver charms at home

The best to way to give your sterling silver charms and bracelets their sparkle back is to do follow an inexpensive polishing process that you can do in the convenience of your home itself. You will only need five things to perform this polishing process. All these things will be available in your home. You will need a pan or a bowl, some warm water, salt, baking soda and an aluminum foil.

The first step involves the bowl. Choose a bowl or pan or any vessel that is large enough to contain all the sterling silver jewelry pieces you want to polish. You have to live this vessel with the aluminum foil. Make sure that you place the aluminum foil such that the shiny side is facing up.

The second step involves all the other ingredients. Put the salt and the baking soda into the aluminum foil wrapped vessel. Adding about two tablespoons of salt and two tablespoons of baking soda would suffice. This measure is perfect for a bowl that is the size of a cake pan or a salad bowl. However, if you are using a larger bowl, you will have to increase the amount of salt and baking soda you need to add accordingly. Many people even use the bathtub to polish larger pieces of silver. If you are using the bathtub, make sure that you increase the quantity of salt and baking soda accordingly.

Next, you need to fill up the salt and soda sprinkled vessel with hot water. Once you are done filling the water, you have to submerge all the sterling silver jewelry that needs to be polished into the water filled vessel. You can now leave this aside for a while and complete any work that you have around the house. Keep checking on the vessel every couple of minutes. The sterling silver pieces will become brighter and sparkle more depending on the existing tarnish that the pieces already have.

You will notice that there are darker parts of the sterling silver jewelry that does not change much color. You can make these parts also sparkle. All you need to do is make a paste of the salt, the baking soda and the warm water on your palm. Make sure you make a thick paste of this mixture. Rub this paste on the darker parts of the jewelry using your fingers. Leave it for a little bit and then wipe it away. You’ll see that the darker parts also turn light after doing this. You are almost done with the polishing process now. All you need to do is wash the sterling silver jewelry pieces under a tap. You can towel dry this jewelry or let it air dry. Your sterling silver jewelry will now have the same sparkle that it has when you first bought it.
